The tray that keeps the line organized
Thermoformed trays with fixed positions, keyed fit, and per-tray counts help keep the line organized and the process under control.

In-plant logistics: the tray that moves between departments
One department produces the parts and loads them into the tray, which moves on to the next department, then to packaging, and then back to the start. This is in-plant logistics, between departments, and it's where most of Termotray's trays are used.
Poka-yoke: every part in its place
The shape of the tray guides each component into the correct orientation, reducing errors and making checks easier during the process. Left-hand and right-hand parts, for example, fit only in their own cavities.
More control over organization and counting
Fixed positions make it easier to see, count, and spot missing parts, which speeds up inventory counts. Parts are counted by tray and by box: with 24 parts per tray and 10 trays per box, that's 240 parts. Each box ships with a label and barcode, so the receiving team already knows the quantity.
Matrix trays for robots and vision systems
A robot-ready matrix tray has a controlled pocket pitch, so the robot knows the exact position of every part. The tray is dimensionally stable, has datum corners, and stacks without sticking. Application examples include laptop boards and SSDs.
Color-coding for part status
Tray color can signal a part's status on the line, for example, green for released parts, yellow for parts in process, and red for parts under review. Each customer defines its own color scheme.
Available colors are typically yellow, green, red, and blue. We can also develop a custom color for your company; a minimum purchase quantity applies.
Single-use or durable
Termotray selects the material and wall thickness for each tray's function and life cycle, from the most economical option to the most rugged. Trays used in production inside the plant are usually thicker and more durable.
Frequently asked questions
A matrix tray is an indexed, robot-ready tray in which every pocket has an exact, repeatable position, like an address.
In a poka-yoke tray, each cavity accepts the part only in the correct position. Left-hand and right-hand parts, for example, fit only in their own cavities.
Yes, process trays work for kanban. Fixed positions make it easier to see, count, and spot missing parts. Parts are counted by tray and by box, and tray color can signal each part's status on the line.
